Our Etching Process
Sandcarving, though straightforward, requires a high degree of human touch in multiple steps. First, a design is printed onto a photomask, which is then applied to the surface being carved. Next, compressed air is used to propel abrasive sand-like material onto that surface. The abrasive etches only the surface in the clear sections of the mask; covered areas remain pristine. This results in an impression left in the surface that cleanly follows the pattern of the mask. Sandcarving is a very versatile etching technique, allowing simple or detailed designs. Due to the high degree of care in creation, finished products hold great value and are an excellent way to commemorate an accomplishment.
